How to color hair?

Introducing hair colors

The hair colors are beautiful.

Hair colors make our life better, those are our magic sticks, that can offer the complete transformation of our look.

Without hair colors, our grays would be so visible. Truth is that grays appear individually, someone gets them in early twenty’s and others get first grays in fifty’s. Hair coloring can be so well done that it can be practically identical to your natural hair.

Hair coloring offers diversity to our looks. So many beautiful blondes, passionate brunettes, and exciting redheads, thanks to hair coloring.

Hair coloring is exciting. With the new trend of crazy colors, we can feel like we live in a fairy tale. Every imaginable hair color is possible.

Hair colors inspire so many talented hairdressers to be artists.

Basics of hair coloring are a color chart and color wheel, knowing the level of your natural hair color, hair structure, texture, porosity. So many things influence the final result.

Now, we gonna quickly pass through the color labels. Usually, the name of the color is a mix of 2 or 3 numbers, or number with the letters depends on the brand.

The first number on a hair dye color code is the level. The level number tells you how dark or light the color is.

1 – Black
2 – Brown-black
3 -Dark brown
4 – Medium brown
5 – Light brown
6 – Dark blonde
7 – Medium blonde
8 – Light blonde
9 – Very light blonde
10 – Platinum-blonde
11 – Special blonde

Knowing the level of your natural tone is the most essential for any type of coloration. You can achieve two levels lighter with the proper hair dye. More about this, later.

The second and the third number or letter is the shade of the color.
Knowing hair color tones is very useful when you choose your hair color. They can be cool, warm and neutral.

  • Cool tones are A-ash, P-pearl, B- blue, G-green and V-violet.
  • Warm tones are C-copper, G-gold, O-orange, R-red
  • Neutral tones are B-beige or champagne and they can be more warm or cool.

In the USA the hair colors are marked with the letters, while in Europe they are marked with the numbers:
1 – Ash
2 – Pearl or violet
3 – Gold
4 – Copper
5 – Mahogany
6 – Red
7 – Beige

Every manufacturer has it’s own layout, for example, 7 – is beige in Wella Koleston Perfect, yet the 7 is green in the color chart of L’oreal Majirel.
Read carefully, the number and the signification on the box.

The second most important thing is knowing your natural pigment. Well, this is easy to know. What is the shade of your hair that you don’t like, and it seems like your hair always has this unwanted reflection. Especially when you are under more light, or exposed to the sun.

Your hair can have an ash or warm natural pigment. This is the most basic partition.
For example, if your hair is naturally warm nuance, and your desired reflection is ash, you must use the color with blue, green, ash, pearl, or violet shade.

To be more specific, warm nuance can be red, gold or orange. To cancel the red pigment you need green. For the gold pigment, you need violet.
And for orange the best is blue. Ash and pearl help in every case, but when the pigment is not very intense.
Do something about your color! Play! Just a few highlights can change your look entirely!

You don’t need a lot of time and money for that, and you will do something good for you. You gonna feel refreshed, and happy with your new look, for sure. I am telling this as a woman!

If you have red, orange, pink, blue, violet, or any intense or pastel color on whole your hair, or highlights in some intense color, you must use pigment conditioner. This product is a life savior for your color. Can you imagine long-lasting, intense colors all the time? Without damaging your hair? Prolong the period between the colorations?

If your color is fading, loses shine and vibrancy, you should use the range of products for color-treated hair. These products, enriched with active ingredients are helping your color to stay longer in your hair shaft. They are locking the color inside! Designed especially to keep your color alive, these products are making a visible difference.

If you are coloring your hair at home, remember 35 – 45 minutes are enough for any type of color.

If you have gray hair, use the colors that provide high coverage. In most cases, these colors are a natural shade, marked as a 00 or NN (second and third number on the box) Double 0 and double N means that color has extra pigment for the higher coverage. Or you have whole collections for high cover gray hair. In those collections, you have wonderful nuances, and as a result, you will have long-lasting, shiny and vibrant color, with the deep pigment and 100 gray coverage.

If you have lots of gray hair, a color-spray would be a very useful product. This product ‘hides’ your grays. Just spray it on, and you will be ready to go. Ammonium and peroxide-free, this little helper will transform your gray hair to the desired color in just 3 seconds. Lasts until the next shampoo.
When we talk about coloring – Less is more – What does this mean?

It means that you have to think about how often you do the hair color. Highlights, or any other technique? Bleach? Nevertheless, don’t put your hair in this stress, too often.

Try some ammonium-free colors. Frankly, those colors are our favorites. They are not aggressive at all. You have to test them if you have gray hair, maybe your grays won’t be covered completely. They might be fading faster. Anyway, use ammonium-free colors, maybe not always, but from time to time, at least.

Those colors are gentle to your hair and scalp. Provide a lot of shine. We all know that ammonium is harmful to our hair, so it is very good to take some rest from it.

Don’t try to go two or more tones lighter at home. There is a big possibility you will end up with horrible color.

If you exactly know what to buy, and how to do it, than yes. Don’t do it alone, please. We can do it together, it is much safer for you.

Never put bleach over bleach. This is directly killing your hair. Literally. Your hair will lose vitality and break. Accordingly, when you have the highlights or ombre, for example, don’t do the bleaching on your bleached parts.
The decision and the coloration you should leave to the professional hairdresser. You can do it by yourself if you don’t have time for a hairdresser. Hopefully, we will make this thing easier for you!

There are many tricks, rules, and exceptions in the world of hair colors. It’s very tricky and confusing, and it is easy to make a mistake. We wanted to introduce you to this world a bit.
