The first thing you have to do is to find your hairdresser, and when you find your bestie, you have to know how to explain your desired hairstyle look.
If you already have your creative friend, your favorite hairdresser, whom you trust, then you are the lucky one! Keep the hairdresser who understands you, because it’s not easy to find the one, for sure.
If you still didn’t find yours, we’ll suggest you keep looking, do the research, follow a couple of hairdressers on Instagram, read the forums, etc… Don’t stop, until you find a hairdresser that suits your needs!
However, the most important for you is to know what you want, what kind of hairstyle you prefer.
Therefore you have to know and to say your stylist what you don’t want to do with your hair.
As a result, your hairdresser will clearly know what to do.
The Haircut – Your hairdresser’s Signature
When it comes to a new haircut, it’s essential to look for the hairstyle that suits your hair type. Otherwise, you will make your life harder.
For example:
If your hair is super curly, don’t go for bangs. Never. You will end-up blow drying or straightening your bangs all the time. If you badly want bangs, do the chemical straightening. This is the only way.
For curly hair soft layered haircut, any length is a perfect solution for having wonderful, defined curls, with good-old natural volume. Avoid straight-cut. As a result, you will look like a “bell”, which is not nice. Curly hair is beautiful, and with the right cut you will realize a visible difference.
If your hair is too thick, wild, and rebellious don’t make too high layers. You will not be able to control it at all! Everything else goes well with your hair. Straight cut looks very powerful, for example.
Fine hair goes along with layers. First of all, fine hair doesn’t have a lot of strength. Therefore, keeping the top layer shorter helps your hair to maintain healthy, with a thicker look in the end. Bangs look good if your hair is not curly.
Long, medium or short hairstyle?
Of course, this the matter of taste and your hair’s possibilities.
- For Thin/fine hair is a better medium or shorter length.
- For Damaged hair haircut is a cure. Better cut more and allow your hair to repair and recover.
- Curly hair tends to shrink up. Keep that in mind when you shorten the length. Always go 2 inches away than a desirable length, depends on your ’curliness.’ The more curly your hair is, the more length you left.
- For thick hair is better to be longer. As it is full of energy, making it short brings your hair to unwanted volume and uncontrollable style. When it is longer, it’s heavier, so the gravity works for you – by pulling your hair down.
However, there isn’t a general answer about hair length. It’s an entirely individual thing — a matter of taste.
The bingo haircut is the one that:
- Suits your hair type
- Looks good on you – take a closer look on your face shape
- It’s comfortable for you
- Makes a long-lasting hairstyle (the volume or flat effect that last long)
- Makes your ends healthy
- You feel like yourself– This one is as important as others
How to catch the perfect haircut?
Perfect haircut is the one that looks great on you and it targets your hair’s needs.
Every hair type is specific and requires special treatment, proper hair care, and the right shape.
To catch it you need good communication with your hairdresser. The hairdresser is the most important factor when it comes to your hair.
Therefore, it is crucial to find a good one. Check it online, find forums where is discussed about hair care in general. Try to find recommendations. It’s easier, than you think.
However, before finding a hair stylists, one essential thing is to know what you want to do with your hair.
Therefore, don’t think that someone will tell you what you want. Everything is easier if you clearly know would you like to have straight cut or layers, short or long hair. At least, some basic yes and nothings for you.
Try to find a picture with the desired hairstyle. This is the best thing to do, but don’t forget to advise about it – Is that hairstyle good for your hair type, face shape, will it look good on you in general.
How to recognize a true professional hair stylist
This is a crucial part of our article. Other things in the article are important as well, but not like this one, to be honest.
However, when it comes to this subject, knowing to make a difference between a good and, well, let’s say not so good hair stylist is essential information for you. Here are some basics:
After five minutes of conversation with your hairdresser if he/she says/does some of these things, you’ve met a right one:
- Really listens
- Wants to make your wishes come true, but not in every case. Tells you what is good for you, and what’s not
- Has some other suggestions for you
- Understands you
- Gives you outstanding advice
- Redirects your wishes in the right way, giving you an example of why is something good for your hair
- Asks you what you did with your hair for the last six months more or less (if you want to do coloration or chemical treatment)
- Asks you about your home care range
- Touches your hair to see the quality and a level of damage
- Has ideas
- Has lots of clients (not necessary, for example, maybe he/she is new in your city, or a salon is a new place, consider that)
However, when you start a conversation in salon with a new hairdresser, if he/she has a couple of things from the list, there is a potential. Keep speaking.
It’s ok to spend 5-10 minutes speaking with someone before giving him/her your hair.
You have to make some of the connection and to know with whom are you dealing with. You have a right to choose good hairdresser. To make a choice, you have to speak a little bit.
Hair coloring
As a hairdresser, I say that coloration is an art. You can change your entire look by adding some highlights, or any color refreshment.
My basic advice to all my clients is to avoid the damage. Therefore, I would say NO when someone wants to destroy the hair, going from black to blonde, putting too many highlights, wants to put bleach over the bleached part of the hair, etc… You get the idea.
I think that every woman knows what is too much for the hair, but sometimes, she wants some change, like when a small kid wants a new toy.
What you think is too much, is too much.
This is a golden rule. Deep inside, you know that you’ve colored your hair a lot, or used an iron every second day, or did a chemical treatment, you know that if you continue doing those things, you are on the one-way. The hair breakage way.
Don’t think that salons and hairdressers have a miracle product that will restart and make your hair “forget” what you’ve done. There is no such thing.
My clients usually ask me if we can put some hair masks and after that, we can do some highlights.
No no no!
Forget about that. Once when you damage your hair, you need years to recover it, in a case of long hair.
When your hairdresser cuts your hair 2 inches more than you wanted, you go home mad, some of you are crying, regretting desperately the decision to do a haircut.
But this is only 2 inches. Can you imagine all hair is damaged from root to tops? I am not saying that 2 inches are small. I am just saying that damaged hair is a way bigger disaster. Don’t do that to your hair. Love your hair. You deserve to look good.
A hairdresser is a responsible person that works on your hair. You’re responsibility is for your decisions.
Think twice before you put your hair into stress. Before you make a dramatic change.
People say “it’s just hair, it will grow again”…
Nevertheless, this is the truth, but if you don’t have to make your life more complicated, just don’t.
Why would you cut your hair in the way you don’t like at all? Why would you feel miserable about your hair?
Speak with your hairdresser, think twice when you want to do something with your hair and search online for more solutions. Use a proper hair care range at home, cherish your beauty.
It’s that easy.

In most cases, you have to avoid hair products and treatments that include chemicals like parabens, DEA or sulfates.
